A day before they can finally whoosh across from Bandra to Worli to test the much-awaited seven-minute promise,Mumbaikers will be treated to a display of fireworks and a laser show to mark the opening of the financial capitals biggest infrastructure landmark to date the Bandra Worli Sea Link.
While the sea link will be opened to traffic on Tuesday,Monday night will see Mumbaikers, from Shivaji Park to Mahim and Worli to Bandra, watching the eight-minute spectacle planned by contractors Hindustan Construction Company (HCC).
The show will be visible from the seafronts at Dadar,Shivaji Park,Bandra,Worli and Mahim at precisely 8.10 pm on Monday. The skies, sea and the bridge will come alive with coloured lights, followed by an orchestrated display of multi-coloured lasers and fireworks of aerial shells, mines,Roman candles and other spectacular illuminating displays, an HCC spokesperson said.
The laser show and pyrotechnics will be presented by Done Events,a Dubai-based firm that has done several such shows across the world. HCC has brought in the team for this special celebration as a curtain-raiser to Mumbai getting Indias first open-sea and largest cable-stay bridge, the spokesperson said. He said the company wanted to give Mumbai a befitting celebration for the euphoria and anticipation over the sea link, especially in the last six months.
The Bandra-Worli Sea Link will be more than a highway for the citys harried motorists. Not only is it an iconic addition to the citys skyline, but it also marks some engineering marvels that are a first in the city. While the central towers of the cable-stayed portion soar to a height of 126 metres, about as tall as a 45-storey building, its weight is said to match that of 50,000 African elephants and its length about as much as 63 Qutab Minars lying end to end.
