Eleven years and several twists and turns later,actor Salman Khan will finally have to face trial under IPC section 304 (II) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. For over a decade,his defence lawyers tried to salvage the situation and tried to shield him from facing trial for culpable homicide not amounting to murder,the maximum punishment under which could extend till ten years.

On September 28,2002,a Toyota Land Cruiser,allegedly driven by actor Salman Khan,rammed into the steps of the American Express Bakery on Hill Road in Bandra
1 person died; 4 were
injured Dead,All were employees of the American Express Bakery who were asleep on the pavement
Khan fled from the spot soon after the crash. A hit-and-run case was registered against Khan.
In May 2004,nearly two years after the incident,the police told the court that Khan was drunk on the night of the incident. A report confirming 62 mg of alcohol content in his blood sample.
Khan,who was initially charged under IPC Section 304-A (causing death by negligence),which was subsequently upgraded to 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder)
This was appealed before Bombay High Court,which reverted to the 304-A charge
Prosecutors challenged this before the Apex Court. In its order,the apex court asked the trial court to decide at the time of the trial if the charges were to be enhanced
On March 14,2011,prosecutors moved an application seeking his charges to be enhanced to 304-II charge
Magistrate V Patil accepted the application and the case was sent to sessions court on January 31
Khan filed a revision petition before the sessions court on March 5
On June 24,sessions Judge U B Hejib rejected the application and adjourned the case till July 19
