Next time when a co-passenger offers you tea, think twice as you may have to pay for it with your entire luggage. The Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday arrested three people who would allegedly offer spiked tea to passengers in trains and decamp with their luggage as soon as they lost consciousness.

The arrested suspects – Arjun Prasad Pal (45),Munna Pal (32) and Rambabu Pal (30) -originally hail from north India and reside in Bhiwandi. The trio was arrested on the charge of looting two commuters Ram Maurya (36) and Kamlesh Prajapati (32) at the Kurla Terminus by offering them spiked tea and escaping with their cell phones, luggage and cash worth Rs 9,500.

As per the police, the accused would normally enter the train and after targetting a particular group of commuters, they would sit next to them. They would then start conversing amongst themselves loudly to attract the attention of the family or an individual.

As their potential target involved him in the conversation, one of them would go and order tea for the group. After giving the spiked tea cup to the victim, they would continue talking till the time he lost consciousness. They would then loot the victim and flee from the spot.

An official from the Kurla GRP said: “The trio has been involved in such cases at Dadar and Kalyan in the past and we finally managed to nab them from the Kurla Terminus after getting complaint of a similar nature. The accused would be presented before the Kurla court for police custody to investigate if there is anyone else involved with the gang.”
