The Emergency Department of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital today organised a workshop on Stress management for the doctors,staff nurses and employees working in Emergency under highly stressed working conditions.
According to Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Administrative in-charge of Emergency Block,DMCH) nature of jobs in emergency area of the tertiary care hospital often create situations that create tremendous work stresses that can lead to physical,mental,and emotional exhaustion characterized by the loss of interest in all aspects of the work. Studies have showed that Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) score high on the list of occupations with potential burnout. Dr Daljit Singh said that such workshops are of immense benefit for the health-care professionals,who are quite stress-prone in handling their professional activities.
Dr BP Mishra,Professor,Department of Psychiatry,spoke on how to cope up with stress. He said stress was useful in limited sense,beyond which it is detrimental for ones physical and mental well-being. He advised that a person should know the scope of his strengths and weaknesses and instead of accusing others for getting the stress,he should make himself adaptable to the surrounding environment.
In his lecture on the topic Yoga as a remedy to stress, yoga consultant,Dr Sanjeev S Rawat said that yoga helped in reducing the basic stress level to a safe limit so that the alarming situations which caused health-related problems dont arise. Regular practice of yoga techniques,few breathing exercises and simple pranayama suggest remedies to cure stress. The chairpersons,during the workshop,were Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina and Dr Gautam Ahluwalia. A proposed vote of thanks was given by the Dr Chiranjeev Gill. Those present at the workshop were Dr Dinesh Sood,Dr PLGautam and Dr Rajinder K Bansal.
The workshop was inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society,Prem Gupta,while Principal of DMCH Dr Daljit Singh was also present at the inaugural ceremony. Relaxation exercises and yoga asans were also demonstrated to the audience during the workshop.
