With missing roll numbers, many students ‘miss’ exam

Nearly 100 students found themselves in a fix when they discovered their roll numbers were missing from the list of the candidates appearing for the Environment Education examination at a centre in SCD Government College this morning.

Nearly 100 students found themselves in a fix when they discovered their roll numbers were missing from the list of the candidates appearing for the Environment Education examination at a centre in SCD Government College this morning.

The students were angry that they had paid the fees for the examination, which is compulsory to pass once during three years of graduation, and cleared all dues but still the list did not feature their roll numbers. They also registered their protest as they got together and shouted slogans demanding they be allowed to take the examination.

“We were confused for a long time and did not know what to do. We went to the officials but they said that the list of our roll numbers had not been received by them, even though we had paid the fee for examination,” said a student of BA first year. “We had to resort to staging a small protest since we were told that our roll number might have been suspended for this particular exam because of some non-payment of the examination fee,” said another student.

The officials at the examination centre, however, said they had not received the list of the roll numbers of some students from the university. “There were about 70 candidates, most of them students of commerce, whose roll number list had not been sent to us. But we later accommodated all the final year candidates because it was their last chance to take the examination,” said DS Chahal, chief coordinator, examinations.
