Who is ruining indoor stadium project?

Though Rs 16 crore has been spent so far,yet the fate of indoor stadium in the city hangs fire.

Lack of will within MC is causing delay: Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal

Though Rs 16 crore has been spent so far,yet the fate of indoor stadium in the city hangs fire.

Numerous meetings in the past few months have failed to generate positive response. “For the past two years, roof designs have not been submitted by architect Sunil Dey,” said contractor Deepak Singhal.

Dey was summoned by the municipal corporation in the first week of January but he failed to reproduce designs, rued the contractor.

This inordinate delay has increased the project cost from Rs 16 crore to Rs 40 crore.

Sources, however, confirmed that the issue of drawings is a lame excuse because the cash-crunched MC is left with little money which it is spending on city’s sundry expenses of repair work ahead of the general elections. Hence, there is no hope that work will resume in the near future, said sources.

Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal said,”Lack of will within the Municipal Corporation is the real cause behind the delay. Although the finance and contract committee tried hard to revive the project and approved Rs 24 crore extra expenditure but lobbying by contractor is resulting in the postponement.”
