Two held with 470-gm opium

The Model Town police have arrested two persons on charges of smuggling opium into the city.

The Model Town police have arrested two persons on charges of smuggling opium into the city. The police said the duo wanted to sell the contraband drugs on a higher rate in the city and encash on the election season.

The arrested duo has been identified as Ramesh Kumar (27) and Sanjay Kumar (24),both residents of Haryana. They were arrested last evening from a police naka at Jawaddi. The duo was coming on a bicycle when they were nabbed by a police party.

Model Town SHO Beant Juneja said that on conducting a search,470 gm of opium was seized from the duo which they had brought from Rajasthan. He said the duo had allegedly purchased the drug from a truck driver for Rs 25,000 and wanted to sell it at the double rate.

The SHO said that Sanjay Kumar was settled in the city and was running a barber shop in Guru Amardas Nagar in Sarabha Nagar. Juneja said further investigations revealed that the duo had a history of drug peddling.

The duo has been booked in a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
