Spike in theft cases irk industrialists

A theft at a dyeing unit in hosiery complex Nooranwala road last night has the area industrialists up in the arms.

A theft at a dyeing unit in hosiery complex Nooranwala road last night has the area industrialists up in the arms.

Notable here is that a gang of thieves struck at DK Poly Industries and stole 18 commercial cylinders each costing Rs 30,000 and four tons of plastic bags. The thieves broke the locks of the unit and struck at about 1.30 in the night. The CCTV cameras installed inside the factory units have captured pictures of seven people stealing from the unit, which is owned by Dinesh Kapoor.

Meanwhile this theft has led to widespread anger among the area industrialists who allege that such incidents had become common in the area and in absence of any police action, were on the rise.

Area president Gurinderjit Singh complained,“Thefts like these are common in the area and many a time,we do not even think of approaching the police for they take no action. We met the area MLA Hira Singh Gabria and even the SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill on this issue. Both assured us swift action but we do not see any increase in police vigil in the area.”

Another industrialist HC Jain added,“the situation is so bad that our labourers while going back home late in the night are accosted and looted by area drug addicts. The result of such incidents, which are very common here,is that labourers do not want to work in this area at all. As a result, our business is being hurt.”

To this,Tejinder Singh, another industrialist, says,“In such conditions, all we can do is approach the police but in our area the police is a mute spectator. We have asked them to increase the night rounds of police personnel in the area but nothing has been done so far. So much so in certain cases the police is even reluctant to lodge an FIR,just to paper over the number of theft cases.”

When contacted, area SHO Gurpreet Singh denied all charges and said,“We are doing our best that we can do. We have lodged an FIR in today’s theft and the culprits will be caught very soon. As far as the issue of security in the area is concerned,we are doing the needful,” he added.
