PPCB urged to consider case of 17 units

While industries are urging the PPCB to restore power of 56 defaulter units, PPCB said effluents going into the Sutlej were degrading the water quality. It is maximum from Jalandhar and Ludhiana and drinking water is getting affected. Meanwhile, city electroplaters association has asked the PPCB to consider the case of 17 out of 56 units whose power has been snapped as they are already members of CETP. Joginder Kumar, President, said, “Already members of CETP should be spared for minor defaults and they must be given 7 to 10 days for repair works.” PPCB, however, denied the same and said that violations cannot be ignored. Of 56, 17 were the members of CETP and hence only 39 are violaters which were not yet members of CETP and were discharging the effluents directly in the sewer. However, PPCB officials say that between January 1 and January 18, as many as 60 units have applied for becoming members of CETP which show that the number of unidentified units are much more as compared to what have been raided by the PPCB.
