‘Police commissioner system should be strengthened’

The state president of Indian Crime Prevention Society,N K Sharma,and general secretary Dr Shiv Gupta said on Wednesday that the police commissioner system in the city needed to be strengthened and made effective in order to check crime rate. In a press statement,the office-bearers said the police grievances committee should be organised at the ward and block level,wherein prominent members from the civil society,social workers should be nominated,so that public co-operation may be sought in checking crimes like thefts,chain snatching,eve teasing and drinking in public places. It was suggested that marshals be appointed to man traffic and sale of drugs by chemists be checked.
