‘Nurses are backbone of healthcare system’

Nearly 136 students were awarded certificates at the graduation ceremony of the College of Nursing at Christian Medical College held on Saturday.

Nearly 136 students were awarded certificates at the graduation ceremony of the College of Nursing at Christian Medical College held on Saturday.

The programme started with an invocation led by Rev. Stanley Thomas and the college choir. CMC Director Dr Abraham G Thomas accorded a warm welcome to chief guest Professor Bimla Kapoor,Director,School of Health Sciences,IGNOU,New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion,Kapoor applauded the role of nurses in the health system of the country. She also emphasised on the need to upgrade nursing education and meet the increasing demand.

“Nurses are the backbone of the health care delivery system,” she said adding that they must fulfill their role with utmost dedication and responsibility. Professor Triza Jiwan,Principal of the College of Nursing,gave away the certificates while the chief guest distributed the special awards.

The Nurses’ Pledge was administered by Nursing Superintendent Professor Triveni Rajappa and the vote of thanks was proposed by Vice-Principal Prof Ponnamma R Singh.

Various awards were given: Best Bedside Nurse,All-round Best Student and Best Community Health Nurse.

The programme concluded with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. The first year students lit their candles for graduates to show the path filled with wisdom.
