Mobile Medical Unit leaves for Athoor

Various villages in Athoor,a remote area in the distict which is some 80 kms from here, will no longer be deprived of health care because of it being far off from the city.

The Mobile Medical Unit,a new concept of the state government aimed at reaching out to the villagers, will visit the residents in their villages and provide them the OPD and other services at their doorstep.

The district health department today flagged off the Mobile Medical Unit with nearly six members of the medical team, including two doctors,to the Athoor. The van will cover the distant villages in the area where there is only one primary health centre and no community health centre, said Dr SP Sharma, the Civil Surgeon.

“The van will visit the areas, which mostly remained untouched by health facilities. The villagers too have been avoiding visiting the hospitals because of the sheer long distance they have to travel to get to the nearest hospitals. The mobile medical unit will therefore provide them facilties like OPD right at their doorstep,” Dr Sharma added.

The air-conditioned van will have two doctors,a laboratory technician,a nurse and a helper. It has a stock of medicines and laboratory too in order to conduct X-rays,apart from providing OPD services.
