Despite a strong case made by MLA Darshan Singh Shivalik to extend MC limit for including 39 villages of his constituency, the idea has been put on the back burner for the time being. Now the MC authorities will be conducting a fresh survey to include 1 km radius area of the entire city within the MC limits so as to develop more areas. But before that they will also be conducting a proper survey as what will be the total cost involved in the entire project. As it will include thousands of new localities in all the wards, thus it will be a lengthy process which seems to be a long term plan as of now.
It was the controversial agenda item and last evening even the BJP councillors had also held a meeting to oppose this move. Today, the Congress and BJP councillors protested this move outrightly although this was discussed at the fag end of the MC general house meeting. Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosain and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda supported a lot Shivaliks point of view, but apart from the councillors,Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal categorically mentioned,Unless we do a survey as how much expenses are involved in including the 1 km radius, this decision cannot be finalised.
The 39 villages mentioned in the agenda in Shivaliks constituency were spread over more than 15 km distance and hence objecting to the same,Congress councillors Raju Thaper,Amrit Varsha Rampal and many others mentioned that the huge area can not be included in the MC limits. Shivalik argued,This villages land has been used for installing garbage dump, sewerage treatment plant,so why cant they be given facilties. Now,land for common effluent treatment plant is also being searched in Bahadurke village, which is one of the villages mentioned in list.
But despite all arguments, the proposal to get the villages included in MC limits did not cut ice with the authorities even today.
Apart from this, the authorities decided that the shopkeepers whose land had come under Dhandari bridge should be given fresh land at the market rate. Projects worth Rs 279 crore were cleared today in the general house which included payments for pending projects of indoor stadium,Lakkar bridge, water and sewer projects. To solve the traffic problem,Rs 50 crore are being spent on multi-storeyed parking, traffic lights and few other projects.
MC authorities have finally decided to give land to police stations on lease basis in various parts of the city so that they can earn some money out of it.
The councillors, meanwhile were seen complaining that demands raised during last time have also not been heard. Dharam Singh Garcha, councillor, had complained that dyeing units – Nahar Spinning Mill and Dashmesh Dyeing are causing water logging in Dhandari village but this problem was not being solved. The encroachments on Kakowal road,Dhandari Kalan,BRS Nagar and many other areas were not being demolished, complained the councillors.
Important decisions taken in MC House meeting
* All those having illegal water and sewer connection will have to get them regularised in three months time otherwise charges of 2 years will be charged from all of them
* MC House decided to pledge 7.33 acre land in Sunet village to take Rs 200 crore loan.
* Interestingly to probe the fake bill scam,in which contractor Varinder Kumar has been accused of drawing payments on the basis of fake bills,a three-member committee has been formed including councillors – Raju Thaper,Shyam Sunder Malhotra and Anil Malhotra. This has however raised eyebrows as already the additional commissioner is conducting independent inquiry.
* The Mayor decided to recruit safai sewaks on DC rate.
* Zonal commissioners will be conducted meeting with councillors after a fortnight.
* MC to give one mason and two labourers in every ward on contract basis for urgent repair works.
* Chief parliamentary secretary Harish Rai Dhanda accused that councillor Gurpreet Gogi charges money from the jhuggi dwellers. Gogi hence in the house challenged Dhanda that if it can be proved,he will resign from the post of councillor.
* Mayor expressed his helplessness by saying that MC employees are making multistoryed buildings on shops located on ESI road,in sabun bazar and hence this need to be checked.
* Entertainment park for kids will be revived in rakh bagh.
