MC General House’s term expires

As of now,Pal Singh Grewal,who served as Finance and Contract Committee member during the 2007-2012 term,is trying hard to be the next mayor. However,at the same time even Hakam Singh Giaspura is trying hard for a second term.

In his thanks note after his term expired,Giaspura claimed that he had been instrumental in getting the problems of the masses solved. He even asserted that had worked above party lines for the development of the city.

Giaspura added that the Municipal Corporation officers too cooperated with him and even the opposition councillors had also praised him often in the General House. He claimed that he worked hard to collect funds for the development of the city. However,he failed to list even a single project where he was instrumental in collecting funds. The names of a few other Shiromani Akali Dal councillors,eg H S Golwaria and J S Sokhi,too are coming in the rounds for the post of mayor. But none of the aspirants were ready to accept the fact that they were in line for this post. Now the ball is in the court of the Deputy Chief Minister to make the announcement,pointed out sources.

It needs to be mentioned that the the elections to the Municipal Corporation had been held on June 10,three months prior to the expiry of the old House’s term in which SAD-BJP again came in a majority.
