10-year-old Avneet Sandhu is one of the 8 junior anchors for Maxs Extraaa Innings T20
Indian Premier League is back, and this time the wickets will stand tall on home turf. The home team,Kings XI from Punjab,is ready with a cricketainment hamper, including rock concerts and celebrity appearances. But the real buzz centres around 10-year-old Avneet Sandhu, who will be the anchor for Kings XI in Mohali.
Sandhu is one of the eight winners of the nation-wide hunt for the DLF IPL 2010 Extraaa Innings T20 junior hosts, conducted by the Max television channel. Ever since I can remember,Ive been hooked to cricket. When the call for auditions came up,I told my Mum that I wanted to try, says Sandhu. I want to be like Mandira Bedi. I love the way she walks, talks and anchors.
Born and brought up in Canada,Sandhu shifted to Chandigarh three years ago. A Class V student of Chitkara International School,Sector 25,she beat 400 participants to make it to the final eight. We were tested on confidence levels, communication skills,on-screen presence and the passion for cricket, she says. Her favourite cricketer is Yuvraj Singh. He made six sixes in one go, she gushes. Sandhu will be inducted on March 13,the first match of Kings XI. Im a little bit nervous, but this is what I want to do, she asserts.
Children in India grow up on cricket, says Gaurav Seth,vice-president,marketing,Max. They love to watch the match and talk about it with their peers, and soon they are out playing and enjoying in the gully. We expect the eight junior Extraaa Innings T20 hosts to give a distinctive, racy dimension, he adds. The junior hosts will get an opportunity to express their views and interact with their home team players, guests and expert panel on-air for the entire DLF IPL 2010 season. Watch out.
