There was a time when we believed in magic and in fairies who would bail us out of all troubles. Catering to that child in all of us,Chandigarh Carnival is back; and this time the theme is Jaadu Nagri..explore the magical world.
While a 25 feet-high gate complete with magical caricatures will welcome you, floats designed as Aladdin,Smurfs,a magical hat and a floating palace will offer to take you on a ride. With about 30 stalls designed to resemble magician huts with colourful roofs, magic shows by magician Satraj SK will entertain you, said AK Malhotra, general manager,Tourism,CITCO,who takes us through the set-up of the carnival village that is rich in colours and caricatures of characters from the magical world.
To be hosted from November 25 to 27 by the Chandigarh Administration, the carnival is now a part of the national cultural map, says finance secretary VK Singh, who adds that a Film City based on Kashmir as the theme will also be part of the carnival. This will be dedicated to Bollywood legend Shammi Kapoor and will be complete with shikara, house boats and snowfall.
City people can also look forward to the amusement park, the food court,CITCO da Vehra,a digital library that will display the historical places and stalls showcasing various forms of artwork along with stalls of mask making and tattoo art. While a magic show will be held on the day of inauguration of the event at 7:00 pm,two mega musical nights one by Bollywood singers Amit and Sumit Kumar, sons of Kishore Kumar, and another by Harbhajan Mann, will also be held on on November 26 and 27 respectively. Singh tells us that the route of the carnival parade will be flagged off from the main gate of the Chandigarh Carnival village at Leisure Valley,Sector 10.
