DMCH doctor attends international conference
A clinical research done by gastroenterology professor Dr Sandeep Singh Sidhu has been acknowledged at the international level. His study on patients in Dayanand Medical College and Hospital,Ludhiana,was recently selected by the American Gastroenterological Association for presentation during the Digestive Disease Week Conference 2010 at New Orleans,Louisiana,USA. Dr Sidhu and his team screened 298 patients with liver cirrhosis in the Gastroenterology OPD. Nearly 115 patients (40.9%) were diagnosed to have minimal hepatic encephalopathy. The study found that Rifaximin is a new non-absorbable,gut specific antibiotic that kills ammonia producing bacteria and decreases ammonia levels in the blood.
PAU has a good student-teacher interaction mechanism
Addressing the advisory group meeting of students of the College of Agriculture on Thursday,Dr Manjit Singh Kang,Vice-Chancellor,Punjab Agricultural University,said a mechanism of interaction between students and teachers was in place. Allotting a group of 8-10 students to each teacher is useful as a redressal mechanism. Dean,College of Agriculture,Dr Milkha Singh Aulakh said every class has a teacher incharge and the advisory group meeting is held at various levels.
Amarnath board announces free insurance for pilgrims
Shri Amarnath Shrine Board chairman N N Vohra announced free insurance for pilgrims,in a meeting with various non-governmental organisations held in Jammu on Thursday. Revealing the information,national president of Shri Amarnath Yatra Welfare Organisation Rajinder Sharma said,It was announced that there will be free insurance for all Amarnath-bound pilgrims. Police verification will not be required,as the president of an NGO will have to identify pilgrims and take responsibility in case someone indulges in anti-social activities. He said the Board has also written to the Ministry of Finance,urging it not to levy toll tax on langars. The Board has also allowed domestic use of LPG and the area to hold langars at six base camps has been increased.
Sharma said the Board has also promised to get the area near Amarnath cleaned before yatra begins. The meeting was attended by Shrine Board CEO R K Goel and general secretary Ravinder Sharma. He said the call for demonstration by his NGO on May 24 at Jantar Mantar has been cancelled as of now.
Kavi Darbar for students held
The playway and primary wing of Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School organised a Kavi Darbar on Thursday. Sonia Khanna,a social worker,was the chief guest on the occasion. Principal Sadhana Sharma was also present. A fancy dress competition was also organised.
