PAU employee honoured for saving lives of two children
LUDHIANA: Lakhbir Singh,working as a messenger in the office of PAU Vice-Chancellor,who had rescued two children from drowning in the Sidhwan Canal on July 30,2008,was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 at a state-level function held on Wednesday.

Students from Kansas University in PAU
LUDHIANA: An 18-member delegation from Kansas State University in the USA comprising students and faculty members is on a visit to Punjab Agricultural University from May 25-30. The delegation met Dr Manjit Singh Kang,Vice-Chancellor,PAU,who while welcoming them apprised them of the educational,research and transfer of technology programme of PAU. The delegation was received by the PAU students by presenting bouquets.

BSNL hunger strike enters 52nd day
LUDHIANA: The chain hunger strike of the BSNL casual and contract workers which started on April 5 entered the 52nd day today. The workers are agitating as about 250 casual and contract workers working with BSNL Ludhiana through outsourcing have been retrenched since March 2010.
Today,over 1500 workers and representatives of as many as 32 organisations held a massive rally and took a procession to the Mini Secretariat. The demonstrators demanded immediate reinstatement of the retrenched workers. Speaking on the occasion,Bant Brar,Secretary,AITUC,Punjab,strongly condemned the retrenchment of the workers.

Chief Ministers media advisor bereaved
LUDHIANA: Harcharan Bains,Media Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,lost his elder sister Manjit Kaur Sandhu on Wednesday morning. She was 67 and is survived by her husband and two sons. In a condolence message,CM Badal described the sudden demise of Sandhu as an un-bearable loss which has left a void difficult to be filled in the family. Information and Public Relations Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan and Jail and Tourism Minister Hira Singh Gabria also mourned the passing away of the Bains sister and expressed his sympathies with the members of the bereaved family.
According to the family,the cremation will take place at Sunet Cremation Ground behind B Block Agar Nagar tomorrow at 10.30 am. The funeral will start from residence 58 Shamsher Avenue at 10 am.
