Leena Taparia new president of District Women’s Congress
Amid controversies,Leena Taparia has been chosen the president of the District Women’s Congress. Many workers had objected to her appointment but she said she will convince everyone and take them along. Talking to mediapersons,she said: “In the coming Assembly elections,I will ensure that atleast one ticket is given to a woman candidate.” She also admitted that the Women’s Cell needs to be re-organised and active participation of women workers is a must so that they can gain ground in politics. Many new programmes are on the cards to motivate workers,she added.

Auto parts manufacturers air grievances
The general body meeting of Auto Parts and Manufacturers’ Association was held on Monday evening. Ranjodh Singh,general secretary of the association,highlighted the problems of the industry due to power cuts,hike in steel prices and labour shortage.

Teachers’ training workshop held
BCM School,Basant Avenue,Dugri,orgainsed a teachers’ training programme on Monday. The resource persons for the workshop were Gurshminder Singh Jagpal,principal,Partap Public School and Manmeet Grewal a psychologist and president of NGO ‘Aagaz’. Gurshminder Singh gave tips on how a teacher could be interactive,informative,innovative and understanding. Dr Vandna Shahi,principal of the school,was also present on the occasion.

Man shot at near PGI
A peon working at the Punjab and Haryana High Court sustained injuries when three assailants fired at him on Sunday night. He was returning home from work when the incident occurred inside the PGI residential complex. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder,but said they were verifying the facts stated in the complaint as there was no eyewitness to the incident.
