Kidnapping case cracked,one held
The police today claimed to have solved the kidnapping case of 9-year-old Jimmy,a resident of Dugri,on Tuesday evening. The police said Jimmy was allegedly kidnapped by his maternal aunt Indu on Monday,who in connivance with her paramour Ganesh kidnapped him for want of money. On Monday evening,Jimmy went to the accused’s place in Jammu Colony. Lter,the accused called up Jimmy’s mother to tell her that Jimmy went missing while he was playing outside the house. After sometime,Ganesh called up child’s father Balkar Singh and sought Rs 3 lakh as ransom. However,the police kept a track of phone calls and interrogated Indu who later confessed to her crime. In the meantime,Ganesh,who had taken the boy to Khanna,left him at Indu’s place but is still at large.

Coaching centre opens four branches
STEPS,the school programmes division of TCY,has launched its course module at four new centres of BetterThink in Ludhiana. According to a press release,“New branches have been opened at Civil Lines,Jamalpur,Model Town and CMC apart from the Sarabha Nagar centre.”

Khalsa College awarded by IBM
Khalsa College for Women,Civil Lines,was awarded by IBM for the second highest campus placements in North India for the year 2009 at ‘Campus Conclave’ organised at Gurgaon on Monday and Tuesday. According to a press release,the first position was bagged by Udaipur University. The award is given by the company on the basis of the percentage of students joining the company after they have been shortlisted through campus placement drives in colleges. Human Resources Director D P Singh presented the Certificate of Appreciation to Pooja Chatley,the placement cell in-charge of the college.

Residents clear water,sewer bills
Long queues were seen outside MC zonal offices and on Wednesday. The MC had set the target of Rs 20 crore for water and sewer bills while Rs 55 crore target for house tax had already been achieved. KP Brar,Additional Commissioner,MC,said,”We have exceeded the target and the details will be available by tomorrow.”
