Music competition marks Sahir Ludhianvis birth anniversary
LUDHIANA: To commemorate the birth anniversary of famous poet Sahir Ludhianavi,the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital,under the aegis of Dhvani(Association for Promotion of Arts),organised an inter-college music competition for students of medical,dental and nursing colleges of Ludhiana at the Dumra Auditorium on Thursday. Principal of DMCH,Dr Daljit Singh inaugurated the competition by lightening the ceremonial lamp. Dr Sanjeev Uppal enlightened the audience about Sahirs contribution in the field of literature. He said the main aim of the competition was to inspire the youth about the rich past as depicted in Sahirs poetry. The judges of the competition were John Bhatti,D K Sachdeva and Kulwant Singh. The first prize was bagged by Abhishek Masih (College of Nursing,CMC),the second position went to Rishu Baweja and Madhurima (DMCH) while the third prize was given to Nikhil Masih (College of Physiotheraphy,CMC). The consolation prize was shared by Naresh Paul and Vishal David (College of Nursing,CMC). In the evening,a presentation by the troupe of Randhir Kanwal mesmerised the audience.
3,000 people encroaching on Wakf Board land
Ludhiana: There are around 3,000 defaulters in the city who have encroached upon the land belonging to the Punjab Wakf Board. The Board has decided to get these plots freed within three months. This was stated by Muhammad Usmaan Rehmani Ludhianvi,a member of the Punjab Wakf Board and chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee. Usmaan,who was addressing a press conference on Thursday,said,The defaulters who get their cases cleared before action will be regularised after fixing of the rent and donation as per the scheduled rate. The land of the Wakf Board is the land of Muslims and no wrongdoing will be allowed. While thanking Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,he said,The CM has provided an honest team to the Board for solving the problems of Muslims. It has been decided to reserve land in the city for a cremation ground and open a madarsa.
National training course concludes at GADVASU
LUDHIANA: The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology at GADVASU organised a national-level advanced training course on Diagnostic and Surgical Procedures in Veterinary Patients from February 18 to March 10,under the aegis of Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT),ICAR. Dr N S Saini,Director CAFT,said a total of 18 applications were received from all over India for this course,of which 12 candidates were selected,who represented eight states. Hands on training was provided to the participants on the latest techniques in veterinary practice like computerised radiography,ultrasonographic and ultrasound guided biopsy procedures for small and large animal patients,surgical management of diaphragmatic hernia in buffaloes,interlocking nailing in small animal fracture patients,bone plating in large animals,surgery of persistent right aortic arch in dogs,laparoscopy,urolithiasis in dogs and cattle. Eminent radiologist Dr S S Bakshi of Delta Heart Imaging Centre,Ludhiana,delivered a lecture on clinical relevance of MRI and discussed its possible applications in veterinary field.
Specialised course for pig farming
LUDHIANA: The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education,Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University,organised a specialised pig farming training course on Wednesday. Around 22 trainees from ten districts of Ludhiana,Mansa,Ropar,Tarn Taran,Barnala,Faridkot,Jalandhar,Sangrur,Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur participated in the course. Participants were informed about pig breeds,sheds,balanced diet,vaccination,hygiene,meat production,and marketing. The university organises specialised dairy farming,poultry,pig and fish farming training courses from time to time. Sports Day held at PAU
LUDHIANA: Presiding over the Sports Day function at College of Basic Sciences and Humanities of Punjab Agricultural University,Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang said,Morality,humility,a sense of competition and fun come as a combo-pack with sports. Keeping in line with the saying of all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,Dr Kang reiterated that sports are a must for the overall development of ones personality. The event was organised by the Society for Advancement of Academics,Sports and Cultural Activities (SAASCA) of the college.
