The Salim Tabri police have booked one Lakhwinder Singh,son of Gurmel Singh,on the charges of impersonation.
According to Bachittar Singh,District Education Officer (Secondary),Ludhiana,“Lakhwinder Singh allegedly took the exam of mathematics of Class X in place of Mandeep Singh at Rajindera Model Senior School,Haibowal. The accused has been arrested and booked under Sections 419,420,120B of the IPC.

Woman dies of burns
A 35-year-old woman died in mysterious circumstances on Saturday,after sustaining burn injuries at her in-laws’ house in Surinder Park area.
The deceased,Suman,was married to Rakesh Kumar four months ago. On Saturday morning,neighbours saw flames emerging from her room. When the room was opened,she was found badly burnt,while furniture and other gadgets like TV and refrigerator were also charred. Police have lodged an FIR against Suman’s father-in-law Chotelal,mother-in-law Shakuntla and husband Rakesh. Suman’s brother has raised allegations that the family had been troubling them for dowry ever since the marriage took place. However,no arrest has been made so far as police are investigating the matter.

Home science questions out of syllabus
The Home Science paper of Class X of the Punjab School Education Board which was conducted today had a few questions which were out of syllabus. In set B,question no XXVIII & XIX were out of syllabus. In set C,question no XVII,XVIII & XXII were out of syllabus.
On March 22,Hindi paper also had a few questions which were out of syllabus.

Ludhiana City Centre case adjourned to April 10
The court of sessions judge S P Bangrah on Saturday adjourned the hearing in Ludhiana city centre case to April 10.
Captian Amrinder Singh and former local bodies minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh were present along with many others listed in this case. The only person absent was D K Anand,an official of Today Homes Infrastructure Limited.
Defence counsel A P S Deol argued that charges against Chaudhary Jagjit Singh were baseless as the project had started in 1999 when the minister had not even taken charge. The Congress government came to power in 2002.
The IBAHRI (International Bar Association Human Rights Institute,United Kingdom) also gave its argument in the case.

Annual prize distribution function at SCD Government College
Nearly 546 students were awarded prizes and merit certificates at the annual prize distribution function of SCD Government College for Boys on Saturday. While 70 students got merit certificates for excelling in academics,126 were felicitated for their participation in different co-curricular activities including NCC and NSS. Nearly 350 postgraduates from the college were also awarded. Sohan Lal,Director Public Instructions (Colleges),Punjab,was the chief guest. Principal Jasbir Kaur Makkar read the annual report of the college.

‘Need to have scientific temperament to pursue research’
A seminar was organised on the theme ‘Nurturing Research Culture’ at BCM College of Education on Saturday. The meet was sponsored by Panjab University,Chandigarh. Dr Jagtar Singh Gill,associate professor,Department of Physical Education,PEC,University of Technology,Chandigarh,and Dr Amit Kauts,Dean,Faculty of Education,GNDU,Amritsar,were the chief guests on the occasion. Gill deliberated on the need to have a scientific temperament to pursue research while Dr Kauts highlighted the importance of research in the field of education.
