The A B C of art. Now that’s a new one. In an age where art is considered a huge investment,it’s always smart to know the abc of it. And presenting the same is eminent art historian and curator Dr Alka Pande. Continuing with their artistic dialogue with the city,Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi is bringing in Dr Pande to deliver a lecture-cum-slide show on “A..B..C..of Contemporary Indian Art – Aesthetics,Buying and Collecting”. Along with this,Dr Pande would be launching her book ‘Indian Art,The New International Sensation: A Collector’s Handbook’. About Dr Pande,she is currently a Consultant Arts Advisor and Curator of the Visual Arts Gallery at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. She was formerly Head of Department of Fine Arts Panjab University and the Director of the Museum of Fine Arts,Panjab University. At the moment,she is engaged with art,aesthetics and the notions of Indian beauty,and her next book deals with Shringara: Eternal Beauty. A prolific writer on Indology and art history,and author of several books,Dr Pande has a special interest in ancient Indian erotic literature and art. Her book ‘An Anthology on Erotic Indian Literature’ will soon hit the stands. Dr Alka has been working in the area of gender,identity,visual arts and Indian aesthetics,and in 2006,was awarded Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres – Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. The lecture and interaction will take place on February 20,at Auditorium of Government Museum and Art Gallery,Sector 10,Chandigarh at 5.30 pm.
