Granthi held for abduction

The Ludhiana Police have arrested three persons for allegedly abducting a woman who chose to marry her lover.

The Ludhiana Police have arrested three persons for allegedly abducting a woman who chose to marry her lover. According to the police,the kingpin is a granthi at a local gurdwara and planned the abduction to restore his teacher’s reputation after his (teacher’s) daughter eloped.

The arrested have been identified as Manjit Singh alias Baba,Manjit’s uncle Udham Singh and Kuldeep Singh. The police have also recovered the car which was used to abduct Kamalpreet Kaur on April 3. The car belongs to Manjit.

The police said Navjot Singh,a resident of Model Colony in Salem Tabri,married Kamalpreet,against the wishes of her family on March 23.

On April 3,about eight unidentified persons entered the couple’s house,beat up Navjot before abducting Kamalpreet. She was allegedly taken to Goraya,Jandiala and other places.

Manjit,who learnt religious music from Kamalpreet’s father Gobinder Singh,told the police they planned to force Kamalpreet to record a statement in the court claiming that Navjot forced her to marry him. On April 7,when the abductors brought her to the Ludhiana court,Kamalpreet raised an alarm. While the three managed to flee the spot,Kamalpreet was rescued.

The police said efforts are now being made to arrest the remaining abductors,who have many criminal cases registered against them. They have been identified as: Satnam Singh,Som Nath and Chamkaur Singh. Three more unidentified persons,also involved in the case,are absconding.
