A city resident was threatened in the middle of the road for not giving way to a policeman driving his private vehicle on Wednesday. The policeman, who was in a Swift Desire, allegedly stopped and harassed Nirbhai Singh,a resident of Miller Ganj at Gyaspura Chowk on GT road.
Singh later told the Newsline,I was travelling around 1.30 pm at Gyaspura chowk when a policeman in a Swift Desire started honking from behind to move ahead. But there was no space at all on either side. When I was not able to move my car,he came out and knocked on my window and hurled abuses. He threatened that I did not know his authority. When I moved forward,he turned his car and stopped it in front of me while hurling abuses again.
According to Singh, the policemen continued abuse him even after the traffic jam cleared and also noted the number of his car.
Police is meant for safety of the people. Today I saw how a policeman driving in a rash manner asks for side in a traffic jam, while driving his private vehicle. He was not wearing his name batch even. Senior officials must take action, Singh added.
