Even as the final exams of the first semester of Punjab School Education Board,Mohali,are less than two months away,the Board is yet to provide provide books in government schools. Consequently,teachers in these schools have been teaching students through written notes.
A school headmaster said,Even as exams of first semester are to start from September 1,the Board has not sent books of any of subjects for Classes IX and X. The Board had instructed us that their representatives deliver the books,but we havent received any.
Some government schools,meanhwile,have received books of only a few subjects. Sources at the district depot of PSEB said books of 12 subjects are yet to arrive.
Another teacher added: In the beginning of the session,we took out a rally in the village to spread awareness about the facilities being provided by the Education department to students. And now,when the session is about to end,the parents of wards approach us and ask us questions on the same facilities we had promised them in the name of the board.
PSEB (Mohali) vice-chairman Suresh Tandon said: We have already supplied books to government schools as per their demands. As number of students increased with admissions ending on July 14,the schools now require more books. He added: If any schools face a dire shortage of books,they can directly contact me and I will get the issue solved.
