Ex-Ludhiana MP Gurcharan Ghalib passes away

Senior Akali Dal leader and former Ludhiana MP  Gurcharan Singh Ghalib passed away after a brief illness, on Saturday. He was 82. Ghalib had been undergoing treatment at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana since October 13 but breathed his last at around 7 am on Saturday.

A former Congressman, Ghalib joined SAD in 2009 after he was denied a ticket by the Congress for Ludhiana Parliamentary constituency. He  was SAD’s vice-president and a member of the party’s political affairs committee.

After Ghalib’s sudden demise, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal visited his house in Barewal on Saturday. He was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and several other political leaders and government officials.

Speaking to the media, the chief minister said Gurcharan Singh Galib was a balanced and an experienced leader. He also prayed for the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to family members, relatives and friends of the former MP.

Meanwhile, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and Information and Public Relations Minister  Bikram Singh Majithia also mourned the passing away of  Ghalib.
