Ludhiana MP and National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress Manish Tewari said on Sunday that the Congress will fight the forthcoming assembly elections in the state primarily on the development agenda.
He said the party will expose the failures of the Akali-BJP government during its tenure.
Addressing a public meeting in Ludhiana South assembly segment after inaugurating the office of the Ludhiana South Block two,Tewari said,The Akali-BJP alliance have nothing to offer to the people. The office has been set up by the block president Jarnail Singh Shimlapuri in Satguru Nagar.
Listing the failures of the Akali-BJP government,Tewari pointed out that when the Congress left the government in 2007 and the alliance took over, the state had Rs 2,000 crores in reserves and the debt was around Rs 45,000 crores. Now there are no cash reserves and the total debt has crossed Rs 80,000 crores, he said.
Tewari said, the people will naturally compare the Akali-BJP regime with that of the Congress and the party scores way ahead against the alliance. This is the reason why people across the state are disillusioned with the alliance and want Congress to form the government.
Addressing the function, the District Congress Committee Ludhiana (urban) president Pawan Dewan said,Unlike the Akali-BJP alliance which has always pursued a sectarian and communal agenda,Congress always takes up development issues which concern the common masses.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Mahila Congress President Leena Taparia,Jarnail Singh Shimlapuri,Satwinder Singh Jawaddi,Palwinder Singh Taggar,Vinod Bathla,Rakesh Sharma and Mohinder Singh Shing.
