Ludhiana: For the second consecutive year,students from Ludhiana have secured top positions in the postgraduate English correspondence course examination conducted by the University School of Open Learning of Panjab University in Chandigarh. Puja Malik and Swati Jain stood first and third respectively in the exam conducted in April last year. Last year,three students from the city — Anuradha,Gagandeep and Suman — had secured the top three ranks in the same exam.

Khanna flyover gets approval

Ludhiana: The Centre has finally approved a flyover that will be constructed at Khanna town in Ludhiana district. This was decided at a meeting held in New Delhi on February 22 between Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways C P Joshi and Dr Kamaljeet Soi,Punjab State Road Safety Council and Vice-Chairman of Punjab Police State Apex Committee on Road Safety & Traffic Management. The meeting had discussed the construction of an elevated road through Khanna to facilitate traffic and ensure smooth functioning of trade in the largest grain market of Asia that is present in the town. “In the meeting,the minister was briefed about the difficulties faced by residents of the Khanna area. He had promised to take action. With this development,he has now fulfilled that promise,” said Dr Soi. The Centre has also sanctioned vehicular and passenger underpass’ for the town.
