A training programme on organic farming was organised by Directorate of Extension Education and Department of Agronomy at PAU on Thursday. Director of Extension Education Dr M S Gill said organic farming has a good potential in Punjab and at present there are 1.42 lakh farmers who have registered for organic farming. Dr Gill elaborated that organic produce of cotton,Basmati rice,pulses,spices,tea,coffee,worth around Rs 400 crore,is exported to other countries. More than 100 farmers and farm women from different parts of the state participated in the programme.

Award for PAU scientist
Mohammed Shafiq Alam,processing engineer at the Department of Processing and Food Engineering of the Punjab Agricultural University has been awarded with a national award ‘Shiksha Rattan Puraskar’ by the India International Friendship Society (IIFS) for his meritorious services and outstanding contribution in the field of teaching and research.

Nurses’ Day celebrated at CMC
The Trained Nurses’ Association of India,Christian Medical College branch,celebrated International Nurses’ Day at the College of Nursing,CMCH. Prof Triza Jiwan,principal,emphasised on the multi dimensional role of nurses in chronic care not only in the hospital but at the community level. Nursing superintendent Professor Triveni Rajappa graced the occasion.

Job fest held
Quest Infosys and the PTU regional centre organised a two-day job fest for students of IT and management courses at Gujrawala Guru Nanak Institute of Vocational Studies,Ghumar Mandi,Ludhiana. Manjeet Singh Chabbra,co-ordinator of the institute inaugurated the placement drive. Johnson & Morison,Reliance Communications,Swani Motors,Virka Infotech,Easy Way,Technowave Global Solutions,Infozee,Maxicon Healthcare,CCIT,Libra Automobile,Reliance Capital Services,Growing Concept and ING India came to recruit students.
