World Bank team inspects water projects in district

A World Bank team headed by Shyamal Sarkar,Piyush Dogra and Kiran Negi visited Ludhiana to review the ongoing water supply and sanitation projects in the city. Mohammad Ishfaq,Executive Engineer,Water Supply and Sanitation Department,Ludhiana,gave a PowerPoint presentation of the on going works in the district. After reviewing the work,team leader Shyamal Sarkar expressed his satisfaction on the targets achieved by the Ludhiana district. A K Soni,District Programme Director-cum-Superintending Engineer,Water Supply and Sanitation Circle,said pond renovation works in the district had been speeded up and presently in 42 villages pond renovation work was in progress and in another 25 villages will be started very soon. He urged the World Bank team to give more funds for the pond renovation work in Ludhiana. The World Bank team visited Dewatwal,Jodhan and Narangwal villages to review the on going works. The team interacted with the villagers as well.

Meeting on tuberculosis held at DMCH

The State Task Force meeting of Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) was held at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. In the inaugural session,State Task Force Chairman and Vice-Principal of DMCH,Dr Jagdeep Whig said medical colleges of the state were playing vital role in the on-going struggle to implement DOTS under Revised National TB Control Programme. State Programme Officer Dr Satdev Saini appreciated the support received from various medical colleges of the state in streamlining the mechanism by taking crucial and timely decisions as well as facilitating actions on the recommendations of various committees. Dr. Jaikishan,Chairman,Zonal Task Force (RNTCP),Punjab in his address congratulated the State Task Force,Punjab as well as the State Programme Officer for regular STF meetings as well as review of performance of medical colleges.

Poor students get clothing,stationery

United Breweries distributed warm clothing,stationery to the students of Primary School,Sukhdev Nagar,Urban Estate,Ludhiana,which has been adopted under ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ scheme. The students were given sweaters,shirts,trousers,girls suits,socks,caps and shoes for the winter. Outstanding students were also honoured by Yogesh Malhotra,General Manager,United Breweries,Ludhiana.

Drama dominates third day of PU festival

Drama dominated the scene while histrionics,orchestra,folk instruments,fine arts items including collage,cartooning,still life drawing and rangoli went side by side on the third day of Panjab University Inter Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival,being organized at Guru Nanak National College,Doraha. Avinash Rai Khanna,Member,Rajya Sabha,was the chief guest of the occasion.
