The financial crunch being faced by Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) was once again out in the open as the salary cheque worth Rs 6,200 of a tubewell operator from Zone A bounced. In a similar incident,a cheque of a tubewell operators salary from Zone D worth Rs 9,300 bounced at ICICI Bank a few days ago.

Building collapses due to storm
Ludhiana: Strong winds took the residents of Ludhiana by surprise on Sunday evening. While incidents of trees falling were reported from various parts,an old building collapsed near Reikhy cinema. However,no casualty was reported. Dr K K Gill,assistant meteorologist,Punjab Agricultural University,told Newsline,This was an effect of monsoon retreat. There may be light thudershowers in the night,but not heavy rainfall. However,by tomorrow the weather will be clear.
Mayor inaugurates Pancham Hospital
Ludhiana: Pancham Hospital located on Jawaddi bridge was inaugurated Sunday by Mayor H S Gohalwaria. It is a 80-bed super speciality hospital with facilities like Interventional Cardiology,Cardiac Surgery,Orthopaedics,Obstetrics and Gynaecology,Neonatology,Paediatrics,Emergency and Trauma,Nephrology,Urology,Gastroenterology,Oncology among others,said Dr R P Singh,MD of the hospital.
City students shine at International Olympiad
Ludhiana: The students from Sacred Heart Convent School,Jamalpur made Ludhiana proud at the 1st International Environment Olympiad-2013,I-Plea programme which was organised in Lucknow by City Montessori School,from September 7 to 10. The team from the school won various prizes,out of 67 teams,from all over India and from Nigeria,Sri Lanka,Bangladesh and Nepal.
