Two groups of college students opened fire at each other,leaving two injured,in Tagore Nagar on Monday.

As per eyewitnesses,the students also threatened passers-by not to interfere in the matter by showing them the weapons.

The injured have been identified as Gurjant Singh,25,of Doraha and Vikram Sharma,22,of Meharban. They were injured in the legs but are stable now.

The police recovered five shells from the spot. To avoid another clash,heavy police force was deployed at DMCH hospital and SCD Government College.

No case was registered till filing of the report as statements of the injured were yet to be recorded.

As per the eyewitnesses,the incident happened around 1 pm when one group in Bolero jeeps was confronted by two Ford Endeavour SUVs. One of the groups flashed firearms and opened fire on the opponents and fled.

Accomplices of the injured students misbehaved with the police,refused to record statements and allegedly threatened to kill “opposite party students”.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Bansal along with ADCP (Crime) Paramjit Singh Pannu,ACP (West) Gurpreet Purewal and force from five police stations police station reached the spot.

A Quick Response Team (QRT) was also deployed at DMCH.

ACP Gurpreet Purewal said issues related to students’ elections were behind the clash,and 12 bore rifle and .32 bore pistol were used by the accused.
