To check illegal mining,raids were conducted in Ludhiana and Khanna on Sunday. More than 50 trucks/machines were seized/challaned and 17 people were arrested. In total,10 FIRs were registered in Ludhiana district itself. Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari along with Ludhiana (Rural) Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Toor personally supervised raids in areas falling in Ludhiana rural police district. Four teams under two DSPs,headed by SHOs/additional SHOs,were formed in Ludhiana rural police district and intensive raiding was conducted. As many as 13 people were arrested and 12 JCB machines,11 trucks and four trollies were seized in Ludhiana rural police district. Consequent to raids conducted in Parjiyan Biharipur,Kaniya,Madepur and Gorsian Khan Mohamad villages,four FIRs were registered against illegal miners in Ludhiana rural police district. The Deputy Commissioner has requested the Chief Secretary that teams of 11 police officers be placed at the disposal of the Ludhiana mining officer for checking of vulnerable areas falling in each police district respectively. He has directed the mining officer that orders be passed for restraining trucks from transporting sand from quarries after 7 pm to curb illegal mining at night.
