Young shuttlers given a warm farewell

Young shuttlers who will be representing India in the Badminton Asia Youth (U-17 & U-15) Championships were given a warm farewell at Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy (UPBA),Lucknow on Friday.

Young shuttlers who will be representing India in the Badminton Asia Youth (U-17 & U-15) Championships were given a warm farewell at Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy (UPBA),Lucknow on Friday. Sudhakar Reddy and DK Sen are the coaches of the team. The championships will be held at Chiba,Japan from October 5 to 9.

The camp for the same was held at UPBA from September 17. Practice was organised in the morning,afternoon and evening sessions. On the eve of the conclusion of the camp,Regional Director SAI,Lucknow Rachana Govil distributed the kit to the campers. Internationally reputed coach Tom John,honorary secretary Badminton Association of India Dr Vijai Sinha and SAI coach Sudhir Singh also graced the occasion. The team will be leaving for Japan on October 2.

Raj,Dharmendra shine

Impressive batting performances by Raj Kumar Singh (6 for 20) of LCA Safipur team and Dharmendra Singh (5 for 20) of LCA Hostel team were the highlights of the final match of the Dussehra Trophy cricket played between the two teams,in Lucknow on Friday. Both the teams emerged joint winners. Batting first LCA Hostel scored 86 runs losing all its wickets in 23.5 overs. In reply,LCA Safipur was also all out at a total of 86 runs in a matter of 28.5 overs. In the match played for the third place,Zangam Sports,Assam defeated LCA LU by five wickets. Former Ranji Trophy player Neeru Kapoor gave away the prizes to the winners. Abhishek Ranjan was declared Best Batsman,Dharmendra Singh was adjudged Best Bowler while Raj Kumar Singh was adjudged Best All-Rounder.
