A week after revenue inspector Ram Kumar Yadav was murdered — allegedly by BSP legislator Chandrabhadra Singh alias Sonu Singh in Sultanpur — Congress has decided to take up the issue, organising a foot march from the village where his wife had won the panchayat election.

The march will be led by state Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and will pass through villages where Sonu Singh has a clout.

On Thursday,Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi announced that the foot march will be held from Majhwara village, from where Yadav’s wife Kamla Devi had contested election and won.

The march will take place on November 9 and the Congressmen have urged people from all villages — who have been harassed by Sonu Singh and his brother — to participate in it.

“Ritaji had visited the village soon after Yadav was murdered and she sat on dharna there, demanding arrest of the BSP legislator,” said UPCC chief spokesperson,Subodh Srivastava. “The District Magistrate of Sultanpur had promised that within next three days, the culprits will be arrested but no progress has taken place so far.”

From Majhwara village,Joshi will lead the march to District collectorate through villages like Batparwa,Shankargarh,Nandapur,Mahiloashapur,Katka.

“Many villagers have complained that they have also been threatened by Sonu Singh and his men in the past, but they are afraid to come forward,” he said. “Thus,it is an attempt to ensure that all those who have been suppressed by such people in the past come out. At the end of the day,we will give a memorandum to the district magistrate, demanding the arrest of BSP legislator and others who have been named in the murder of Yadav.”
