Woman of robbers’ gang in police net

Twenty-three-year-old Vijay,a daring female robber of a bikers’ gang from Ferozabad,was caught along with three other associates by Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force on Tuesday.

Vijay had been lodged in the Ferozabad jail under the Gangsters Act for a year and was released barely two months ago. Her two elder brothers,hardcore robbers,died in encounters with the police. A third brother is in jail for two years.

The girl belongs to Suhag Nagar locality of Dakshin area in Ferozabad. Her mother runs the gang and had been jailed in 2006 for sheltering criminals. Her father,an Armyman,and had died several years ago.

Vijay has confessed to executing 13 robberies in the district in the last two months after she was released from jail. The girl,who studied up to Class X,is fond of expensive branded jeans and T-shirts,costly mobile phones and perfumes.

Inspector Bijendra Singh Tyagi of the Special Task Force,who had eliminated Santosh,one of the girl’s brothers,in encounter in 2000 and arrested her yesterday,said the girl had graduated into robbery and hold-ups while pursuing the criminal cases against her elder brothers Santosh and Jai Hind.

Santosh had died in Ferozabad. Jai Hind was eliminated by the Agra police in 2005.

Vijay stepped into crime and went through extensive training of pistol shooting by her third brother Narendra alias Lala after he took over the command of the gang. Narendra is now in Bareilly jail.

The girl can use semi-automatic firearms efficiently and always carries a pistol and at least a dozen of cartridges while moving out of her house.

Yesterday,she was carrying a countrymade weapon.

Tyagi said Vijay and Narendra’s confidant Virendra Prasad now runs the gang of nine members and they have six motorcycles to execute robberies and hold-ups.

The gang works in the daytime. Vijay collects information about the affluent people in Ferozabad.

The gang chooses a target and follows him when he leaves his residence. On any sign of resistance,they open fire. The STF inspector said active involvement of Vijay’s mother in criminal activities was corroborated during surveillance when they heard her talking to her daughter on her cellphone last week.

She asked Vijay to lay hands on a local trader who carries Rs 5 lakh everyday from his shop to home,Tyagi added.
