Wanted criminal from state killed in Mumbai encounter

A local Gangster was gunned down in a joint operation of UP Special Task Force (STF) and the Mumbai Crime Branch in Malwani area of Mumbai on Wednesday. The state police had offered a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone who helped nab him.

Dilip Yadav,a history-sheeter of Devgaon police station of Azamgarh district,was facing 30 criminal cases,including 10 cases of murder in Azamgarh,Jaunpur,Allahabad and Varanasi. He was on the run since 2004.

An STF team led by DSP S Anand was assigned the job to trace Yadav after half-a-dozen leading businessmen of Azamgarh complained of extortion threats from the gangster in the last six months

SSP (UP STF) Naveen Arora said a police team went to Mumbai last week following information that Yadav was staying in Kandivali area of the city on a fake identity.

Arora said they sought assistance from the Mumbai Crime Branch to arrest Yadav after surveillance of his phone calls revealed that Yadav was going to visit a friend on Malad-Marve Road on Wednesday noon.

The police team laid a trap and killed the gangster in an encounter,the SSP said.

A .32 bore pistol and cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused,said police.
