Varun: There’s a generation gap between me and Rahulji

Bharatya Janata Party national secretary and Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi, who visited flood-affected areas in Hardoi district on Wednesday.

Bharatya Janata Party national secretary and Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi, who visited flood-affected areas in Hardoi district on Wednesday, said that he is not imitating cousin and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi,as there is a “generation” gap between them.

“All those who are travelling the country are learning…Rahulji is 10 years older to me…I don’t consider him to be of my generation,” Varun said in response to a question.

While addressing party workers,Varun said that politics should not be election-centric,instead,it should be centered around the poor and their welfare. “My advice to all workers is that they should go to the houses of flood victims and light a lamp of happiness. There are over 1.5 crore people who have been affected by floods in Uttar Pradesh and a small measure will help us get closer to their problems,” he said.

“I believe in ground level politics and will like party workers to follow the same. We need to get closer to the problems faced by the people and have regular communication with them,” he added.

Alleging that both the state and Union governments have failed to provide long-term relief to flood-hit areas,Varun said he will raise the issue in Parliament.

He met flood-affected people in Gaurraiyaganj and Butamau villages and distributed crackers and sweets for Diwali.

Among others,Varun was accompanied by state secretaries Ashutosh Tandon Gopal and Santosh Singh and media coordinator Dilip Srivastava. He also met a rape victim in Hardoi’s Pali Shahbad area.
