A very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributing it to fresh western disturbances and a deep depression that crossed the Odisha coast.
The IMD’s Lucknow centre has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. Following the sudden change in weather, temperatures are expected to hover between 32°C (maximum) and 25°C (minimum).
What can residents expect?
Officials said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely across parts of Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh in the coming days, with peak intensity expected on October 6.

Due to this system, along with confluence of winds and high moisture, there is possibility of heavy to very heavy precipitation with hailstorm over Northwest India during the same period with peak intensity on October 6,” said the MeT department.
The department also forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) over East Uttar Pradesh on October 4 and strong surface winds of 40-50 kmph on October 3-4.
The warnings come as a deep depression over south Odisha moved north-northwestwards at around 10 kmph on the intervening night of October 2-3.
