A station officer posted in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao was sent to the police lines after a photograph and a video clip of his children and other family members posing with around Rs 13 lakh cash went viral on social media recently.
On Friday, Unnao SP Siddharth Shankar Meena attached Ram Chandra Sahni, Station Officer of Beheta Mujavar, to the police lines and ordered a probe against him.
He will now face departmental inquiry, which will be conducted by Unnao Circle Officer (Bangarmau) Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Singh told The Indian Express, “He hasn’t given us a written statement. But he claims that the photo is old and the money in it belonged to his brother-in-law, father-in-law and some of it was loaned for building a house two years ago. We are investigating the claims and checking the facts.”
A senior police officer said that in the photo, a total of 27 bundles of Rs 500 are seen and if each bundle is worth Rs 50,000, then the total amount comes to around Rs 13.5 lakh.
