A boy who had cleared the Intermediate examination with second division committed suicide in his Alambagh home on Monday.

Sunil Kumar Singh (18) had hanged himself from the ceiling fan. The incident came to light when his father,Brijendra Singh,a hawker,returned home at 9 am after distributing newspapers,said Sub-Inspector DK Mishra. A five-page suicide note has been recovered.

The police said Sunil was not happy with the 51 per cent marks that he had scored. He was in depression after the results were declared. “In the note,he wrote that he had failed to meet the expectations of his family. He also mentioned that a second division would not help him get admission in Lucknow University,” said Rajveer Singh,in-charge,Alambagh police station.

Sunil was a student of the Janta Inter College. His mother was in Kota when the incident occurred. Sunil’s uncle Indra Pal Singh said: “For the last four days,Sunil was never at home for long. He was spending time out,perhaps with friends. Yesterday,he came home around 9.30 pm and after dinner went to his room”.

His mother told them that after Sunil’s father left for work,Sunil had gone for a walk. “We did not know when he returned home and committed suicide”,said Indra Pal.

The family said there was no pressure on Sunil to get high marks. “We were satisfied that he had passed,” said a relative.
