The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Monday arrested two of the three youths for making extortion calls to a contractor in village in Varanasi. The third accused is absconding. The youths posed as gang members of jailed don Munna Bajrangi to frighten the Varanasi-based businessman.
STF ASP Santosh Kumar Singh,who led the operation,said that Anil Yadav,Suresh Yadav and latters brother Rakesh Yadav made extortion calls to leading CPWD contractor Lalit Gupta demanding Rs 6.5 lakh since August 31. The calls were being made with the use of a SIM card which was purchased on a fake identity proof from Nadesar locality in Varanasi,he said.
Singh said Gupta met the DGP,Karamvir Singh,on September 13 and lodged a complaint regarding the extortion calls. The complaint was later forwarded to the STF.
The STF team found that the calls were being made from Koirajpur village in Badagaon police station area in Varanasi. The cops then arrested two of the accused ¿ Anil and Suresh. Rakesh is reportedly absconding. The trio who are in the age group of 19 to 22 belong to Koirajpur village,the ASP said.
Singh said the three accused have no criminal background and they had planned to earn fast bucks through extortion. Anil knew Gupta,as his father was associated with Gupta for last 20 years. Anils father Amarnath,a truck driver,used to deliver building material at various work sites of Gupta,the ASP said.
The accused told the STF men that they used Bajrangis name to frighten people and make them pay the money,Singh said.
