Two children were feared drowned while five others were rescued after they fell into overflowing drains in two separate incidents in Lucknow on Monday morning.
Police said four boys fell into a drain,overflowing with rain water,in Wazirganj area when the wall next to the drain collapsed. All the four were standing on the boundary wall.
A 15-year-old girl who saw them fall jumped into the drain to save them,but got trapped and shouted for help.
Hearing her shouts,the residents of the locality came for help and managed to rescue four of the drowning children,including the girl, said the in-charge of the Barood Khan police outpost,Ram Swaroop.
One of the children,Kasim (10),is missing. His elder brother,Samir (12),was rescued.
In another incident,around 3 pm,Kallu,10,and Babu,13,fell into Kukrail nullah in the Ghazipur area. Hearing their cries,locals jumped into the nullah and managed to rescue Babu,while Kallu was swept away by the current.
We are trying to find Kallu, said the in-charge of Ghazipur police station,Sanjay Rai.
