Tribhuvan Singh, the criminal from eastern UP carrying a Rs 5-lakh reward on his head, surrendered before the Special Task Force in Lucknow on Wednesday.
An arch-rival of jailed don Mukhtar Ansari and a confidante of mafia don Brijesh Singh,Tribhuvan is wanted in five cases registered in Vara-nasi,Ghazipur and Lucknow since 1991. Trial against him in 15 others is still pending. The cases include kidnapping, murder and attempt to murder.
The STF sources confirmed Tribhuvan was dropped at the Mahanagar STF office by Brijeshs nephew and BSP legislator from Varanasi Sushil Singh. The Senior Superintendent of Police,STF,Amitabh Yash said: Tribhuvan arrived at the STF office around 12.15 pm in a Scorpio and requested to meet me. Brought to my room,he offered to surrender. Asked why he chose to appear before the STF instead of a court,Tribhuvan said: Even if I had surrendered before a court, the STF would have taken me on remand for interrogation. Besides, the STF team had been camping out at the school of two of my children (a prestigious institution in Ajmer) to trace me. For the last few months, they had been visiting my in-laws and relatives frequently as well.
Denying that had affiliation with any political party or any plan to contest elections,Tribhuvan said his rivalry with Mukhtar Ansari began since Ansari shot dead his elder brother Rajendra Singh at the Varanasi Police Lines in 1988 and later eliminated his other brothers Ram Bilas and Virendra in 1996. He also alleged that Ansari had killed his nephews Anil Singh and Rahul in 2002. SSP Yash said Tribhuvan had hideouts in Raipur in MP,Bhubaneshwar in Orissa,Kolkata,Dhanbad and Ranchi in Jharkhand and parts of Bihar.
