To stop incidents of ragging,IIT-Kanpur and other premier institutes in the city have decided to take written commitments from students parents.
Earlier,the students had to sign a form declaring that if found guilty of ragging they would not object to the disciplinary action initiated by the institute against them. From this academic session,the parents will have to do the same.
The IIT-K is known for its anti-ragging measures,and the declaration form signed by parents will help us in further improving our system, said Sanjay Govind Dhande,Director IIT-K. The institute is already equipped with Anti-Ragging-Committee,Counseling Service Committee and Student Gymkhana to tackle ragging.
Apart from IIT-K,the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) has also decided to take written commitments from parents.
The HBTI authorities claimed that no ragging incident has been reported in the institute for the last few years but still they are keeping a close eye on it. Chandra Shekhar Azad University for Agriculture and Technology too is in favour of involving parents in curbing ragging. However,it is yet to make an official announcement on it.
