Tigress kills 9-yr-old at Katerniaghat

A tigress killed a nine-year-old girl and injured her mother in the Doodhnathpurwa area of Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary on Thursday.

“The child had gone to the area along with her mother,Vimla (37),a resident of Maurahwa village. While the mother was working in the fields nearby,the child went into the sugarcane field where she was attacked by the tigress,” said a senior official of Katerniaghat Wildlife sanctuary.

After hearing the child’s cries,Vimla rushed into the sugarcane field and she too was attacked. “Our team is present there and we are monitoring the movement of the tigress which is still present in the area. If there is a need to tranquilise the big cat,we will do so,” said R K singh,Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Katerniaghat.
