The human-wildlife conflict in Chandrapur, first documented by The Indian Express in 2007- 2008, had been growing since 2005. While there were just three deaths in Brahmapuri in 2005, the numbers have risen almost ever year since
In June, a 195 kg tiger was shifted from Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia, a first case of inter-state relocation. Days later, a tigress was also relocated from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
"We have intensified patrolling in the area and have also summoned Special Tiger Protection Force to man the area and provide security to people, who have got busy with sowing operations now," Deputy Conservator of Forest (Brahmapuri) Kulraj Singh said.
The report includes information collected in the last nine years by the Forest Department and WTI as a part of the Big Cat Conflict Mitigation Project. It analyses the patterns of attacks, and outlines the circumstances in which these shy animals injure or kill humans.
