Three of family commit suicide

Three members of a family reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the Ganga in Naraura area of Bulandshahar district on Sunday allegedly after harassment by two persons from whom they had borrowed money.

Three members of a family reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the Ganga in Naraura area of Bulandshahar district on Sunday allegedly after harassment by two persons from whom they had borrowed money.

According to police,Dharmendra Kumar (45),a resident of Gandhi Park area of Aligarh,his wife Pushpa and four children came to Naraura area on Sunday morning after having decided to commit suicide by jumping in the Ganga river. Police said Kumar ran a shop of furniture in Aligarh.

They said Pushpa informed that she asked her husband and children not to jump in the river after they arrived at a ghat in Naraura area. She said her elder son Mithun and a daughter Sweety obeyed her. However,Kumar and two daughters Swati,17,and Bhawana,14,jumped into the river,police said.

Naraura station officer Brahmesh Kumar said the police were informed by Pushpa about the incident. He said they have recovered all three bodies and sent them to Aligarh after their postmortem had been conducted.

Kumar said Pushpa lodged a complaint with the police that her family was being harassed by two persons from Aligarh,named Pushpendra and Jugnu,who had lent some money to the family. He said both accused have been booked under IPC 306 (abetment to suicide).
