The police have lodged an FIR under Section 138 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on charges related to abduction.Tension prevailed in a village in Bareilly district after a man lodged a police complaint on Tuesday alleging that his 18-year-old daughter had been abducted by a 21-year-old villager belonging to a different community.
Police have registered an FIR under section 138 of the BNS . With the incident triggering communal tension in the village, police personnel have been deployed as a precautionary measure, officials said.
“Our investigation is on. We are conducting raids to nab the accused and those who helped them, but so far no arrests have been made,” Nitin Kumar, DSP, Bareilly, said.
In his complaint, the woman’s father accused one Aashiq Ansari of abducting his daughter and that she was a “victim of love jihad’ and would soon be coerced to convert to Islam. He also alleged that Ansari’s family members and friends helped him. His daughter took Rs 10,000 and some jewellery from the house, the man further stated in his complaint.
Ansari’s family members fled the village soon after the FIR was lodged, police said. A similar case was reported at another village in Bareilly district on July 9. A woman had got an FIR registered, alleging that her minor daughter was abducted. Police found the couple.
